Wisdom (Part 1)

Proverbs is a book filled with wisdom, along with its close relatives, knowledge and understanding, the three being mentioned more than 150 times in the King James version of the book. Wisdom and knowledge are personified in the book, and if their message is followed they will lead us on the path of life that God intends for us to walk. First and foremost as my Pastor says, “Think Spiritual”. Think of the words of wisdom and knowledge as coming form the lips of Jesus Himself, teaching us about the Father and His will. 1 Corinthians 1:30 says, “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption -”. This wisdom is the revelation of God to us revealing the knowledge of Salvation that was previously hidden but now clothes us with righteousness, sanctification (consecration or separation), and redemption. Both Psalm 111:10 and Proverbs 9:10 state that,  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”, and Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” This wisdom of God, and from God, brings us into an understanding of Him and His commandments, which fools despise (that is those who are perverse and silly according to the original Hebrew word), and in Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principle thing; Therefore get wisdom, And in all your getting, get understanding.” In Proverbs 3:5-8 we are told to trust in the Lord, to acknowledge Him, and to fear Him; this leads us away from our own understanding to having Him direct our paths, leading us to depart from evil, and producing health and strength to our very being. This is God’s wisdom working within us.

Wisdom From Proverbs 3

-By Rose Hill

With all your heart you must trust,

Getting God’s understanding is a must.

The Lord will direct the path you take,

If His commandments you don’t break.
