Wisdom (Part 2)

Proverbs 4:5 says, “Get wisdom! Get understanding!” and then it goes on to point us to their source, “Do not turn away from the words of my mouth.” Whose mouth? Remember “Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God”; therefore to listen to the voice of wisdom and understanding is to listen to Him. The Psalmist seems to echo the same trend of thought in 119:104, “Through Your precepts (appointed and mandated ways and laws) I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way (road of untruth and sham).” (comments added). And lest you think you are giving up something of value to the flesh, something that the carnal nature says is worth more, Proverbs 16:16 sets the record straight, “How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.” To have an intimate walk and communion with the Savior is the wisest and most valuable choice anyone can ever make. Continuing our journey in Proverbs 3, read verses 13, 16-17, 19-23, and 24-25 where we find this wisdom and understanding brings happiness, length of days, pleasant ways, prosperity, peace, safety, stability, and freedom from fear and terror with sweet sleep (the contemporary English version says, “You will rest without a worry and sleep soundly”). What a great asset we are afforded and given in this wisdom from God.

More Wisdom From Proverbs 3

-By Rose Hill

Find wisdom and happy you are,

It is better than gold and silver by far.

In wisdom’s right hand is length of days,

And pleasantness in all her ways.

By wisdom the Lord made all things,

And safety to your path He brings.

You need not ever be afraid,

Of the sudden terror the wicked made.
