Better… (Part 6)

The basis for this meditation comes from 1 Corinthians 15:53-58. Living in a broken world, we must reconcile ourselves to the fact that “it is appointed for men to die once…” (Hebrews 9:27). Death is so cruel, so cold, and appears to be so permanent; even having been redeemed from the curse of sin and death our present body will pass away, or be instantly changed at Christ’s second coming (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). Verse 26 states, “The last enemy that will be destroyed is death”. But there is a glorious hope for the children of God through Christ Jesus – the hope of a new body (and Biblical hope is not merely wishing, but it is hope with assurance of fulfillment)! As Christ was raised from the dead we too shall be raised; from a natural body to a spiritual body, from a corruptible body to an incorruptible body, form a mortal body to an immortal body, from a terrestrial body to a celestial body, from a body sown in dishonor to a body raised in honor; and our victory song shall be “Death is swallowed up in victory” (verse 56). This is part of the believer’s “blessed hope” which shall be realized at “the appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). The time when “we shall be like Him, for we shal lsee Him as He is”    (1 John 3:2), and the time when “He will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body” (Philippians 3:21); to a body that will never suffer death, sorrow, crying, tears, or pain, because “the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4). Yes our God is the God of  “better things” having provided for us a “better way” with “better wine”, a “better body”, a “better plan”, in a “better country”! Can you honestly say that you have that blessed assurance of this hope within your heart? It only comes through Jesus living in your heart; why not invite Him in right now, repenting of your sinful past and asking Him for a new future purchased by His blood that was “shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28).

A Better Body

-By Rose Hill

This physical body we know will decay,

It really does humble us we say.

In it is weaknesses and infirmity,

But someday a spiritual body we will see.

The spiritual body will never decay,

It will live on in eternity’s day.

Being full of all strength and divine power,

It will not know sickness for even an hour!

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,

We will be changed, never more to sigh.

This perishable part of us will be gone,

And immortality we will put on.

So rejoice and let your heart sing,

Victory, a better body will bring.

Through Christ we are made conqueror,

And there will be death no more.
