What Do You Choose

In Deuteronomy 30:15, 19 God spells out a choice that He has always given to mankind, saying, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” This is the same choice God gave to Adam at the beginning in Genesis 2:16-17, but sadly he chose death which affected all of us his descendants! God expands on this here in Deuteronomy showing that the choices and lifestyles of parents can have a profound impact on their children, and even if they should rebel and go astray, having implanted the right values into them we have laid a solid foundation from which to pray, and from which seed the Holy Spirit can work in them! Then Jeremiah brings up the same subject in 21:8-9 showing through Israel’s example that we can continue in sin and rebellion and face certain death, or we can choose to come out from under the curse of death brought on by sin and rebellion and receive life. He also alludes to another fact that there may be consequences of seeds that were sown in a past lifestyle whose harvest will still be reaped because of the law of sowing and reaping (see Galatians 6:7-8). But the good news of 2 Corinthians 5:17 is that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” By choosing Christ we are choosing the life that is triumphant over death, new life in Him, and now we begin to sow the good seed of His life flowing out of us, and to reap the good harvest of His provisions now and eternally.

New Life

-By Rose Hill

Let’s choose life as God says we should,

And walk in His way, which is very good.

Blessings come in going God’s way,

And obeying His voice everyday.

Let’s look at new life coming forth this spring.

And think what new life in Christ will bring.
