The Certainty Of God’s Promises

In 2 Corinthians 1:20 we are told, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen to the glory of God through us.” When God makes a promise you can rest assured of its fulfillment, whether it be that of blessing for the obedient or judgment for the disobedient. In Numbers 23:19 when Balaam (not a prophet of God, but a soothsayer, see Joshua 13:22,) desired to curse Israel, the blessed of God, for personal gain, he was overridden by God and the would be curse was turned into a blessing, with Balaam speaking this eternal truth, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” No man or devil can reverse what God said, as Balaam acknowledged in verse 20, “He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.” However God’s promises are conditioned upon people’s response to His word. If it seems like His promise is not being fulfilled we should first look to see if all the conditions have been met; and secondly consider if we are rushing God’s time, when instead we need to learn to stand firm in hope and “with patience wait for it” Romans 8:25 KJV. Psalm 119:89 declares, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” God’s promises, both for this life and eternal, are so sure that He has confirmed them by two immutable (unchanging) things, His word and His oath, which is so secure that it anchors our hope in heaven itself through the Lord Jesus Christ, (see Hebrews 6:18-19, the basis of today’s poem).
God’s promises.

By Rose Hill
God made a promise and it is sure,
And forever and ever it will endure.
He will not break a promise He made,
But hold to all the plans He laid,
That if we grow in faith and on Him lean,
Then His power and wisdom in us is seen.
We have a hope that is sure and steadfast,
An anchor for the soul that will forever last.
Our inheritance in heaven will never decay,
It will be reserved for us until the day,
When what we hope for becomes sight,
And God will make all things right.
