The Light Of Hope

Proverbs – a book of wisdom – in 4:18 says, “… the path of the just is like the shining sun (light, KJV), That shines ever brighter (more and more KJV) unto the perfect day.” What a perfect verse to portray the journey of the righteous through the world of darkness that is all around us. Here surrounded by the dark ways of the wicked the light of the righteous stands out more and more, not only to those around him, but also his own path is being illuminated by the light of God’s word, and the hope that is set before him in which Hebrews 6:19 says “we have as an anchor of the soul.” God has placed His word in our sight as a “lamp to my feet And a light to my path” Psalm 119:105 (cf. Proverbs 6:23). Jesus said “If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light …” John 11:9. This illumination of hope is like a light shinning at the end of a tunnel through which we are passing, as we go farther and farther on our journey we see it brighter and brighter even beyond this life as it leads us into eternal light, and so Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:19, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable.” And the next verse says we have this hope “because Christ is risen from the dead …”
Our bright future
By Rose Hill
If our hope was not for beyond here,
Then we would have very much to fear.
We would be miserable above all measure,
With nothing in the future to treasure.
But Christ has risen light to give,
So with Him in eternity we can live.
