Power From Above

Micah obviously lived in an environment where wicked and false prophets were leading God’s people astray; delivering God’s message to them he distinguishes himself as God’s prophet by saying, “But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord” 3:8. As God’s people we are promised power to live and act differently than those around us, and that power is experienced through the Holy Spirit. Even Jesus Himself, the special Son of God that He was, needed this power while in His physical body here on earth, and by that same power He lived, worked, and taught the people! John testified “I saw the Spirit descending like a dove, and He remained on Him” 1:32. In Acts 10:38 we are told that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil…” And in Luke 4:18-21 He declares that His teaching, healing, and deliverance ministry was because “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…” This is the same Spirit and power that He promised to His followers, that would enable them to live and work just as He had done before them, not as the special Son of God that He was, but as a human man in a body of flesh like them, but by the Spirit of the Lord upon Him. In Luke 24:49 He said, “Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power form on high.” And in Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me…” Then in Acts 2:39 the Bible says, “For the promise is unto you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God will call.” We need this upper room experience of power today as much as they did back then; let’s go for it!

The promise of power

By Rose Hill

Jesus promised something new,

A special power I’ll give to you.

The Holy Spirit I will send,

To be your comforter and friend.

I promise you ability,

To set the captive sinners free.

But for this power you must wait,

It will come in time, it won’t be late.

So in obedience they waited ten days,

Desiring to learn of God and His ways.

When suddenly there came from heaven a sound,

And the Holy Spirit came rushing down.

They received from God this promised blessing,

And Peter stood up with power addressing,

The people who wanted to receive God’s favor,

And three thousand souls received the Savior!
