How Strong Is Your Foundation?

Jesus was the greatest teacher that ever walked the face of this earth, often using stories or parables to teach the principles of the kingdom of God. In Matthew 7:24-27 is one such allegory of two carpenters who each built a house, the difference being that one of them made sure he had a solid foundation so when the storm came because the house was firmly anchored to that foundation it withstood the storm unscathed. The other built without having a solid foundation, and even though it looked beautiful, when the storm came it could not withstand the pressure and fell in ruins. The lesson Jesus wanted to get across here was upon what are you building your life? Are you building for the long haul, for the future, for eternity? Or are you just building for the present, for the temporal, for the gratifications of this life? The “storm” will come and the life that has only theories, and/or fleshly gratifications, “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life … (which) is passing away …” as 1 John 2:16-17 puts it, will fall into “everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord …” 2 Thessalonians 1:9. But the life, the house that is established and anchored “on the sure foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone” Ephesians 2:20 will stand eternally. Will you call upon Him and make Him Lord of your life today and enjoy eternal bliss with Him? Or will you choose to live for today’s quick gratifications using the “cheep” materials of the flesh, only to suffer eternal loss? Remember, you are the house and you are the builder, what material will you use, and what foundation will it be anchored on?

A good foundation

By Rose Hill (taken from Matthew 7:24-29)

There was a man who much wisdom had,

It kept him from ending up very sad.

Upon a rock his house he built,

When the rain fell he had no guilt.

Another man built upon the sand,

When it rained the outcome was not grand.

Your foundation Jesus said must be good,

And things will turn out the way they should.

So build your life on what Jesus taught,

And the blessings of obedience will be brought.
