Early

In Proverbs 8:17 KJV we read “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” He is speaking here as wisdom personified. Now as we come to the New Testament we learn that Christ is both “the power of God and the wisdom of God” and He has “became for us wisdom from God…” 1 Corinthians 1:24, 30. And in Colossians 2:3 this truth is substantiated even farther as we read “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and of knowledge.” So we can read this verse as Jesus speaking to us. To seek Him early can be early in the day, before all the other things begin to take their place and toll; the Psalmist said “I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help…” Psalm 119:147. To seek Him early can also be early in life; in Ecclesiastes 12:1 the wise man said “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult (evil) days come…” Remember it is always better to avoid “potholes” than it is to repair the damage caused by them! And, to seek Him early must be before everything else; Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Note that we are not to seek the things first, but “the kingdom of God and His righteousness”. Psalm 37:7 says “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;” James 1:4 says “But let patience have its perfect work, that you, may be perfect (mature) and complete…” And the glorious promise of Jeremiah 29:13 still stands “you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Don’t wait until calamity comes to drive you to seek Him like Ephraim and Judah did in Hosea 5:15; seek Him early and find His presence through the day.

God bless you

In the early morning,

When the day is at its best,

May you find the faith and courage,

That will give your heart true rest.

And as the sun climbs higher,

May true faith abide with you,

So that you will keep on smiling,

Every hour, all day through.
