To Be Loved

To be loved is a universal craving of the human heart that comes from God Himself because love is an attribute of God. The Bible tells us both that “love is of God” and that “God is love”, 1 John 4:9-10. Having been created in His image and according to His likeness in Genesis 1:26-27 love is a natural attribute which we crave and have the ability to give! Remember that true love focuses on its object rather than itself; it certainly longs for reciprocation, but if that is denied it continues to extend itself! This is the kind of love God Himself demonstrates toward us as Romans 5:8 tells us, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Jesus Himself said “Greater love has no one that this, than to lay down one’s life for His friends” John 15:13. Actually He went over and beyond that because as we saw in Romans 5:8 He died for us while we were still in sin (His enemies) so that we could become His friends! He does not choose any one because of any merits on our part, but as Deuteronomy 7:7-9 says “because the Lord loves you.” When we reciprocate His love responding to His call a glorious experience awaits us, as we see from the Shulamite in Song of Solomon 2:4, “He brought me to the banqueting house, And His banner over me was love.” And Zephaniah 3:17 says “He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet* you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” *(The Amplified Bible explains, “He will be silent and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them”). What I see here is the picture of a groom with his bride as he celebrates over her with great delight. Yes you are loved!

You Are Loved

By Rose Hill

The Lord in your midst is a mighty one,

For you the victory He has won.

He will quiet you with His love,

And sing to you from His throne above.
