What Joy What Delight

Pleasure, that feeling of enjoyment and delight, or that which gives it to us; other words that describe pleasure include happiness, bliss, contentment, satisfaction, and gratification. In Psalm 16:11 David, speaking to God, shows us the place of lasting pleasure saying, “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Now contrast this with the fleeting pleasures of this world wherein we currently reside. Having grasped this truth it is no wonder that he made the choice every one of us would be wise to make, when he said in Psalm 27:4, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord (we could justifiably say the presence of the Lord) all the days of my life” (both now and eternally). In Proverbs 8:35 God speaks to us as wisdom personified, through the author, probably Solomon, saying, “For whoever finds me finds life…” This does not mean we will never have to face life’s realities, but like Paul we can say, “…I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content” Philippians 4:11. Why would anyone seek their pleasure in the fleeting things of this world that “does not satisfy” when God is calling, “Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance” Isaiah 55:2.
Pleasure
By Rose Hill
The Lord will bless the righteous with goodwill and pleasure,
He will shield them for they are His treasure.
He instructs them and shows them the way they should go,
They have fullness of joy in His presence we know.
And they give Him much pleasure for His plan they fulfill,
He is so glad when they walk in His will.
When this life is over and their work is done,
It is His great pleasure to welcome them home.
