Unity

God is a God of unity. We see this manifest in Himself as early as Genesis 1:26 where He refers to Himself as “Us”; then the New Testament in 1 John 5:7 says, there is “the Father, the Word (Jesus, John 1:14) and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one.” We also see it in the creation of man made in God’s likeness as a trinity having spirit, soul, and body, yet unified into one person. It is farther seen in Genesis 2:18 when God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” So we see family unity beginning to take shape. We can follow unity as being God’s will and plan throughout the Bible, and we learn at the tower of Babel, which was an apparent effort to outdo, outsmart, and rebel against God, that it is sin (missing the mark) that brings division and disunity! The Spirit of God is the Spirit of unity as we see in such Scriptures as Psalm 133:1 and Ephesians 4:3. In Acts 2:1 the believers “were all with one accord in one place”, the Greek text showing here this to be in “a harmony leading to action”, and it was in this atmosphere that the Holy Spirit came upon them filling them with Himself. Again we see the power of unity creating the atmosphere for God’s presence and manifestation in Matthew 18:19-20, (cf. 1 John 5:14). This does not mean that God is not present with an individual who is alone with Him, for indeed He does hear that one, and Matthew 6:6 even enjoins this kind of intercessory prayer to us with the promise of open reward. Nevertheless the Scripture indicates that the larger the group that assembles in unity, unity in worship, unity in praise, unity in the purpose and service of Christ, yes, unity as His family, the greater will be the habitat for His presence and power, See Leviticus 26:8; Ecclesiastes 4:12!

Jesus wants agreement

By Rose Hill

Jesus wants us together to be,

Oh that all of us would agree.

For our request He then will grant,

Then our needs are met we’re confident
