2 Peter 1:11 says, “For so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” The kingdom Peter has in view here is the one represented by the stone in king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream which “became a mountain and filled the whole earth” Daniel 2:35. It would be “a kingdom which shall never be destroyed…and it shall stand forever” verse 44. By following the context of Peter’s message here in chapter one of this his second epistle we see that it is a message about our preparing for that abundant entrance. Knowing Christ Jesus as Savior today makes us a part of the kingdom of God, however the kingdom today is a spiritual kingdom which “is within you”, Luke 17:21. Now we live as children and ambassadors of Christ and the kingdom (2 Corinthians 5:20) in a “foreign environment” with the kingdom in, and manifested through, us; but in the day Peter speaks of here we will live in the kingdom with kingdom environment all around us! In these verses Peter is telling us how to prepare for that abundant entrance into this eternal kingdom environment. We do not just sit on our “hunch’s” and relax because the kingdom is within us, but we become diligent to grow and mature in kingdom qualities adding to our basic faith virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love, being “diligent to make [our] call and election sure…” lest we regress rather than progress. Let us strive not just to enter the kingdom, but prepare for an abundant entrance!
Abundant entrance
By Rose Hill
Perhaps you say you are getting too old,
But the greatest blessings are about to unfold.
The gates of heaven He will open wide,
And an abundant entrance for you He will provide.
I hesitate and wonder – if I really want to go,
To another place somewhere – in a world I do not know.
I wonder how I’ll leave this world – and how that I will fly,
To that other world way far beyond – way past the deep blue sky.
And when I do arrive there how will I know where to go,
Where to find my dwelling place – in world I do not know?
Then one morning God spoke to me – saying the Savior is your friend,
And He promised to be with you – until the very end.
Remember when He went away – He said, troubled not to be,
For I go to prepare a place – a place that’s just or thee.
Oh how wonderful there is a place – that beautiful land of somewhere,
There is a home, a mansion rare- a place for me that’s there.
When I do get there I’ll not have to roam – all around the glory land,
And wonder where I do belong – in that world that is so grand.
But here is a place that’s just for me – with some special things I love,
He’s prepared for me a perfect place – in that beautiful home above.
O wonder of wonders I have a place – He is preparing for me,
I want to go and see my place – when from this world set free.
So in my Savior I will trust – and with Him always stay,
I won’t have to wonder where to go – For I know He is the way.
