Today we are looking at the treasure of the kingdom of heaven (or the kingdom of God) as we turn our attention to Matthew 13:44-46, where in the Amplified Bible we read, “The kingdom of heaven is like something precious buried in a field, which a man found and hid again; in his joy he goes and sells all he has and buys that field. Again the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a dealer in search of fine and precious pearls, who on finding a single pearl of great price went and sold all he had and bought it.” These two parables are one and the same in that both speak of the superlative value of the kingdom and the Lord Jesus Christ, who as the merchant gave everything he had to obtain this valuable treasure for us; while on the “other side of the coin” we find it to be of such great value that everything we Have ever held dear pertaining to our fleshly appetites and pleasures of this world become so insignificant in comparison that we become willing to “sell” out every one of them so as to obtain, and daily delight in, the greater wealth and treasures of the kingdom of God which is infinitely better. In 2 Corinthians 4:7 NKJV, the apostle speaking of the glory of God through Christ, writes “we have this treasure in earthen vessels.” Have you invited the King to bring the kingdom into your vessel?
The Greatest Treasure
By Rose Hill
The kingdom of heaven is as a precious treasure,
So wonderful to us it is beyond measure.
It is like riches buried in a field,
Which upon find it our old ways we yield.
When this treasure we discover we become willing to sell all,
Of our possessions both great and small.
Just to have this treasure.
The kingdom of heaven is very precious indeed,
It is like a pearl of great price guaranteed.
Who when one found it he sold all that he had,
To have such a pearl he was mighty glad.
For it was such a treasure.
To live in God’s kingdom we are very blest,
He gives to us sweet peace and rest.
We are willing to leave the old world behind,
To know this new life which in our Lord we find.
For He is such a treasure.
Philippines 3:7-9 NLT “I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with Him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with Himself depends on faith.”
