Once again in John 15:5 we see that abiding in Jesus is a fruit bearing position, “He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit.” A friend of mine one time said “As long as you are green you are growing; when you stop growing you are dead.” In verse 6 Jesus talks about the withered branch that is cast out, it is unfruitful! To bear the fruit of Christ we must put on Christ, Romans 13:14 clothe our-self in the likeness of Christ, Galatians 5:22-23, and submit to the pruning and cultivation of the Word of God in Christ, John 15:1-2. The “bottom line” of abiding and fruit production is the reproduction of the life and work of Christ. In the words of an old song, “When you speak does the world think of Jesus? When you sing does Jesus sing too? When you walk does Jesus walk with you? Does the world see Jesus in you?”
Abiding
-By Rose Hill
Abiding, remaining, that’s what it’s all about,
We must obey the word and carry it out.
When abiding in Christ in Him we must walk,
Being like Him in action and talk.
