Distractions rank high in the cause of accidents that often times produce irreversible results; innocent lives are lost, permanent injuries are sustained, and hearts are left broken and lonely. Distractions can work havoc in your life, and also in those around you! Similarly, distractions in our walk with the Lord and in our spiritual life are also hazardous. God tells us in Colossians 3:1-2, “If then you were raised with Christ…Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Paul saw himself as a runner in a race who could not afford to become distracted; in Philippians 3:14, he says, “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” and in 1 Corinthians 9:24, he portrays us all in that race with a prize in view, and says, “Run in such a way that you may obtain it.” Keep your eyes on the goal, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” who warned us not to become overcharged or weighed down with “dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life” in Luke 21:34 ESV, or as the GNB puts it “feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life.” Isaiah 50:70, speaking of the servant (Jesus), says, “…I have set My face like a flint…” and Luke 9:51 shows His flint-like determination as “He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” He would not allow Himself to be distracted from His goal and mission, and neither can we allow ourselves to be distracted by the world around us, or our own carnal instincts!
Set Your Love
-By Rose Hill
Set your affection on things above,
And on the Savior that you love.
He is sitting at God’s right hand,
And fulfilling God Almighty’s plan.
