In addition to the beautiful characteristics of Jesus enumerated in Isaiah 9:6, the scripture shows us numerous attributes that He extends toward us, and when we see these in Him they are a reflection of the Father; likewise when we see them in the father they are a reflection of Him, for He said, “I and My Father are one”( John 10:30). In John 15:13, He is Loving, and in Romans 5:8, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Then in Numbers 14:18, He is Long-suffering, Merciful, and Forgiving, “The Lord is long-suffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving our iniquities and transgressions …” He bears long with us that He might show His mercy, forgiving the iniquities and transgressions of all that come to Him in repentance; “The Lord is not slack (He is not negative nor does He delay) concerning His promise … but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Then in 2 Corinthians 10:1, the Meekness and Gentleness of Christ are demonstrated in the Apostle Paul. Jesus Himself said, “I am gentle and lowly in heart” (Matthew 11:29) (the K.J.V. translates gentle as meek). Yes, we see Him acting in humble tenderness toward all that sincerely call upon Him. And in Luke 7:13, He is Compassionate. In Matthew 9:36, “He was moved with compassion for them …” and His compassion is seen in other places as well. All these attributes are toward us, but we must commit to Him to reap the benefits; will you allow Him to manifest them to you, and then through you?
The Attributes Of Our Lord
-By Rose Hill
I will tell you about the prince from heaven,
Of His attributes there are more than seven.
He came to the earth as the “Prince of peace”,
Within your heart He makes strife to cease.
He loves you more than tongue can tell,
He died to save your soul from hell.
Long-suffering and mercy in Him overflows,
Your need of forgiveness He surely knows.
Now our Lord is also very meek,
To be like Him we must always seek.
And very great is His gentleness,
On His right hand we can always rest.
He will give us a compassionate look,
Our transgressions to the cross He took.
