Light and darkness are polar opposites: the darkness of a stormy night with no light in sight verses the brilliance of the mid-day sun in a cloudless sky. This is the contrast of two kingdoms, the kingdom of God (which is light) and the kingdom of Satan (which is darkness). The question is which kingdom am I a citizen of? As every one of us began our physical life in total darkness, in our mother’s womb we never saw light, but when we were born light flooded all around us. Likewise we were in spiritual darkness, as Psalm 51:5 says. “I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.” It is only when we come to a new birth in Christ Jesus that His light floods all around and fills us. Colossians 1:12-13 says that God “has qualified (or enabled) us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love”. As the child in the womb cannot enter light until it is born, so we who are held in the confinement of sin cannot enter light until we experience a new birth in Jesus who said, “I am the light of the world, he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). And this life is eternal for He said in John 11:26, “whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die” (spiritually). As we continue in this light it “shines ever brighter unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18). This is when we will receive the consummation of the inheritance of Colossians 1:12-13. Will you turn to this light today, or will you be like those in John 5:40, of whom Jesus sadly said, “you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life”?
From Darkness To Light
-By Rose Hill
Out of darkness I heard the call,
That I am chosen and that’s not all.
He wanted to give me His mercy – its free,
God turned on the light so I could see,
That all of His blessings were meant for me.
He also will give a life without end,
And forever He promised to be my friend.
