During the time of year we call the Passion season our attention is drawn to the sufferings of Jesus after the “Last Supper”, which leads us to focus on His blood that was shed for us. Peter writes, in 1:18-19 of his first epistle that we were redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ.” In Genesis 9:4 God tells us that life is in the blood; we can see this in real time through a blood transfusion, where someone that is dying is infused with blood bringing new life and restoration. But to make this happen someone else who is healthy has to give that blood which cannot be contaminated and must be a perfect match. The Bible says we “were dead in trespasses and sins” Ephesians 2:1; our only hope was for one like us who was not contaminated with sin to give his blood for us! Do you see the picture? Jesus became one of the human race so His blood was the perfect match, see Hebrews 2:14, and He was “without blemish and without spot” 1 Peter 1:19, His blood was uncontaminated by sin. Only by the application of His blood are we purchased Acts 20:28, washed, Revelation 1:5, cleansed 1 John 1:7, redeemed Romans 3:2-5, Justified Romans 5:9, healed 1 Peter 2:24, and given peace Colossians 1:20. At the “last supper” Jesus used the occasion to transform the Passover celebration from Old Covenant thinking to New Covenant truth. Using the contents of the cup symbolically in Matthew 26:27-28, He said “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Each individual must partake for themselves by faith, of His blood, to receive His life!
The power of the blood
By Rose Hill
O the power in the blood that flows free,
From Calvary for you and for me.
God gives to us the forgiveness of sins,
The blood confirms the agreement we have with Him.
Life eternal this precious blood gives,
Our power is Christ, His life in us lives.
It gives us peace and from fear we are free,
It keeps us cleansed no more guilt we see.
We have fellowship with the Father and Son,
And with God’s people we are one.
Oh the power we really receive,
When in the Lord we believe.
