He Who Exalts Himself

In Daniel 4 Nebuchadnezzar had witnessed the works of Yahwah (Jehovah) God and acknowledges them in words, and that the Spirit of God was in Daniel (a distinction that every child of God should have) but had not submitted to His ruler-ship over his own life and kingdom. He failed to break off from his sins and iniquities, and was apparently filled with pride. The story of his being cut down should be a lesson to everyone that just a little bit of external religion will not suffice; only a changed heart matters! The Bible says “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” Proverbs 16:18. Remember you cannot claim the grace of God while persistently living in sin. Humility and repentance is all that are acceptable with God.

Nebuchadnezzar

By Rose Hill

Nebuchadnezzar the king had a dream,

It greatly troubled him it would seem.

To interpret it he called Daniel in,

For this dream was very strange to him.

There was a tree that grew very strong,

And reached the heavens before long.

It had very beautiful leaves,

Fairer than all the other trees.

For all creatures it provided shade,

The birds in its branches were not afraid.

Then in the visions of his head,

As he relaxed upon his bed.

A holy one from heaved came down,

And said cut this tree to the ground.

When Daniel heard this he was dismayed,

And to tell the king he was afraid.

For the king himself was truly that tree,

And though he was great for all to see.

The Lord would come down and humble him,

To show him of his pride and sin.

And he would go out with the beasts of the field,

Until he learned to God to yield.

So this happened to him as Daniel had said,

According to the visions of his head.

For as he was walking in his palace one day,

His understanding just passed away.

After seven years his understanding returned,

And now to please God he yearned.

Then to him his kingdom was given back,

And now he was surely on the right track.

Yes, God is able to humble and abase,

But in the end He adds more grace
