God had given His very nature to the man He created in Genesis 1. Like children become partakers of their parents nature, Adam (man) inherited this nature as God “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life” Genesis 2:7. But alas, he decided to sell that God-nature out for a cheap piece of fruit, and he immediately took on a fallen nature from Satan who himself had fallen! So what was God going to do? Wipe him out and start over? No, that was never an option; Romans 11:29 says “The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Like Isaac could not recall the blessing he had bestowed on Jacob in spite of Jacobs trickery in Genesis 27:33, God because of His own laws and nature could not recall His eternal gift. Man still retained his eternal characteristics but now fallen to a different destiny! So what would God do? He devised a plan to restore man; this was promised from the day of the fall and by many succeeding “exceedingly great and precious promises” by which “the divine nature” could be restored, 2 Peter 1:4. So now as many as receive Christ (John 1:12) as Savior become “a new creation” (new in freshness or renewed) 1 Corinthians 5:17. A process that begins instantly at the New birth (John 3:3) but will only consummate when through his mercy that surrounds us (Psalm 32:10) we will again be fully like Him when we see His face, (1 John 3:2 & Revelation22:4.) God’s plan was not completely derailed even though it hit a bump in the road; in fulfillment of His promises we are restored in Christ and on the winning side!
Great Promises
(By Rose Hill)
No trial can God’s plan derail,
I’m in His hands His will won’t fail.
I will learn to be content,
For His many promises are sent,
To help me trust when in need,
And from these troubles I’ll be freed.
