We are living in times of great darkness upon the earth, times like are described in Isaiah 60:2, “For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people …” While this chapter gives Israel hope of restoration from captivity, it also embraces Messianic and Eschatological times. Darkness speaks figuratively of misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, gloom, and wickedness. In John 3:19 Jesus said, “… men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.” The human heart being enticed by what Proverbs 7:6-15 portrays and personifies as a crafty harlot that is “loud and rebellious” whose allurement comes “In the twilight, in the evening, In the black and dark night.” The words “loud and rebellious” mean making a loud sound, and to turn away and be morally refractory; and imply to be in great commotion or tumult, as well as to rage, war, moan and clamor; certainly true of the world in our day! But the beautiful part is that Isaiah did not stop there, but in the last half of Isaiah 60:2 said “But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you…” As He would do for Israel so He will do for His children today who have been called “out of darkness into His marvelous light” 1 Peter 2:9, and have been called to “shine as lights in the world” Philippians 2:15. If you are still walking in darkness outside of Christ He is saying to you now, “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness” John 12:46. 2 Peter 1:18-21 shows us how the prophetic word has been confirmed and says, “which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place …” Verse 19. Light in a dark place
By Rose Hill
There is a lamp shinning in a dark place,
It reaches into our hearts with grace.
It is a light and it breaks through the gloom,
I hear the voice of God in the room.
You will hear Him too if you seek to know,
What the prophets have said so long ago.
