The fruit of the Spirit (Part ten)

The next fruit of the Spirit that we come to is peace. The dictionary has numerous definitions for peace, probably the first one to come to our natural mind is “freedom from war or civil strife” which is very difficult to obtain, and probably impossible to maintain, when our human hearts are out of alignment with God. The peace that is the fruit of the Holy Spirit is first a calm quiet serenity planted deep in your heart. Relationship with God was broken and the peace that comes with it was lost when Adam stepped over God’s boundary placing himself and all his offspring under Satan’s sway (Genesis 2:16-17 and chapter 3). The Psalmist in 51:5 said it correctly, “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me” meaning that the sin nature is passed on to every one of us by our human father and while in sin we are at enmity with God as Romans 5:10 alludes to. Just as God came to the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3 seeking to restore relationship with Adam, so He came into this world to restore relationship with all men. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” But all men do not benefit from His efforts for it is only “as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” John 1:12. The Bible says to those who do so “…having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1. This is the foundation stone of this fruit of peace; if you haven’t done so come to Him today, and experience His peace firsthand.

Peace with God

By Rose Hill

We were away from God and born in sin,

But through receiving Jesus we can come to Him.

He bought us by His precious blood,

And gave to us our peace with God.
