“But the fruit of the Spirit is…Meekness” KJV (which we are using for today’s meditation). Meek, gentle, humble, lowly all seem to be companions in this fruit. We should never confuse meekness as being weakness, rather as I quote from the Spirit Filled Life Bible; it is “power under control. The person who possesses this quality pardons injustice, corrects faults, and rules his own spirit well.” The Bible says of one of Israel’s greatest leaders, “the man Moses was very meek…” Numbers 12:3; even when opposed he acted with gentleness and in a Godly manner! Jesus is always our greatest example, and He said “I am meek and lowly” Matthew 11:29. His meekness being on full display when He did not require a kingly white horse upon which to enter Jerusalem, rather in fulfillment of the prophecy in Zachariah 9:9, He came riding “meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass” (donkey) Matthew 21:1-11. One of God’s top requirements is “to walk humbly with thy God” Micah 6:8. Matthew 5:8 pronounces blessing upon those who walk in meekness. Numerous Scriptures enjoin us to meekness, like Colossians 3:12 “put on…meekness”, Ephesians 4:1-2 “walk…with all…meekness”, Galatians 6:1 “restore…in the spirit of meekness’, cf. 1 Timothy 6:11; Titus 3:2. The sweet Holy Spirit implants the seed of this beautiful fruit within us at the New Birth empowering us to produce it, but it is our responsibility to implement it!
Meek and mild
By Rose Hill
Oh to be humble meek and mild,
To be this as God’s own child.
Living my life as Jesus did,
This is how I want to live.
