The calm assurance of trusting God

Psalm 62 is a great Psalm of encouragement to those trusting God through times of adversity and testing, those who are established firmly on the rock of salvation having the calm assurance that God is their defense, their strong tower of refuge and safety. When looking at his adversaries the Psalmist sees them as we also should, for their final end, which is “like a leaning wall and a tottering fence”, they will fall and be slain or destroyed! As the Psalmist looks to God with all confidence he concludes that “God is a refuge for us.” In verse 9 he contrasts the high and the low in this world (the Amplified Bible adds “in the social scale”) and concludes that one is no better than the other for both are lighter than a vapor, (cf. James 4:14). Don’t set your heart on achieving status or wealth in this world for these are vanity, rather set your heart toward, and listen to the voice of God to whom belongs the “Kingdom and the power and the glory forever” Matthew 6:13. And finally he points to taking a position of accountability before God who is great in mercy but renders “to each one according to his work.” This is repeated in Romans 2:6, and in Revelation 22:12 Jesus says, “behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work.”
Trusting God
By Rose Hill
I’m not discouraged or even shaken,
His offer of hope and refuge I’ve taken.
In His strength my soul will rest,
Trusting Him my heart is blessed.
