Ephesians 2:1, 5 speak of the time God, “when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ”. The Bible here is not speaking of our physical life, although to be certain this life is attributable to Him since it is He who “gives to all life, breath, and all things” Acts 17:25. Every breath we take is a gift from Him for which we should be grateful and give Him praise. However the Bible here is focusing on spiritual life and death which is equal to knowing God or not knowing Him! Notice the contrast between the physical and the spiritual, physically we come into this world alive and leave this world in death; spiritually we come into this world “dead in trespasses and sins”, (verse 1) from the moment of conception, and have been “brought forth in iniquity” Psalm 51:5; however in turning to Christ we are “made…alive together with” Him, hence we leave this world in life! The Bible says, “in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” 1 Corinthians 15:22. Born again” is the term the Bible, and Jesus, uses of entering into this life, with Jesus saying “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” John 3:3 cf. verses 7, 5. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” John 10:10. This is superabundant life now, here, and beyond “having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” 1 Timothy 4:8.; The Bible says “Eye has not seen, Nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man, The things which God has prepared for those who love Him” 1 Corinthians 2:9, quoted from Isaiah 64:4; but we get to glimpse them as God reveals “them to us by His Spirit” (verse 10). Yes, I am made alive in Christ!
Abundant life
By Rose Hill
Jesus has come, life to give,
An abundant life as for Him we live.
But the life after this is greater still,
To give eternal life is His will.
