If we consider Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Jesus, let us consider what His birth really means. We have a tendency to focus our attention on the humble surroundings of that magnificent occurrence, the heavenly annunciations of it, and the visitors that came in witness of it. His birth was not just to attract us to these events surrounding it; His birth is a powerful announcement to all the world, heaven has come to earth! “He was in the beginning with God” John 1:2, but now appearing on earth as “God with us” Matthew 1:23; yes He was now a part of humanity, having not only created it, but now becoming a part of it, “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given…” Isaiah 9:6. “Unto us” not only to the Jewish nation in particular, but to the whole human race in general. His birth heralded the message that “the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men” Titus 2:11, “For there is born to you this day…a Savior who is Christ the Lord” Luke 2:11. Sin had separated man from the presence of God, Genesis 3:23-24, symbolized by the veil in the temple, but His coming meant that fellowship could be restored, Mark 15:38. The world was in spiritual darkness, but His coming meant we could have “the light of life” John 8:12. The world was filled with tribulation, but His coming meant that we could have peace, John 16:33. We were “strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world” Ephesians 2:12, but His coming meant that we can now have “a living hope”, 1 Peter 1:3, the “hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began” Titus 1:2. Receive Him today and you too will be able to “Rejoice in the Lord always” Philippians 4:4.
