Wonderful Works (Part One)

In a recent meditation we looked at the wonderfulness of our Lord, His Name, and glimpsed how wonderful He really is. Today we are continuing to look at His wonderfulness, particularly how He seeks to reveal Himself to us. In Psalm 40:5 the Psalmist David wrote, “Many, O Lord my God, are your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If  I would declare and speak of them They are more than can be numbered.” Indeed, everything He has created and made is purposed to reveal Himself to us because He loves us so much. In Jeremiah 31:3 God says to Israel in particular and by extension to all people, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”  Psalm 19 reveals two ways He has employed to reveal Himself to us with the first six verses giving a general revelation of Himself in what we call nature, which is His creation through which all men can see and hear their “voice” pointing them toward Him (see for example Matthew 2:1-12).Then in the last eight verses of the Psalm we see Him revealing Himself through His word. Then in psalm 92:4-5 as we submit to Him, His works make us glad and cause us to be triumphant; then we have rejoicing in His great works, especially His work in us!

God’s Wonderful Works

(Part one) By Rose Hill

Your works, O Lord are mighty great,

I love Your power to create.

The heavens are wonderful to behold,

Through the firmament Your works are told.

No one can ever with You compare,

And never can anyone Your glory share.

Your wonderful works are many more,

Than I can count or even explore.

We sing about what You have done,

We make a joyful noise and have some fun.

You save Your people from every foe,

Your power to deliver us we know.
