A Son is given

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given…” Isaiah 9:6. To both the nation of Israel through whom the side of his natural linage came, and also to the Gentiles, thus to the entire human race, as the Scripture says in Luke 2:32 “A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” What is unusual about this birth is that this Son is the second person of the Trinity the one who co-created the universe with the Father, leaving His eternal place of splendor to become a seed and be born of a VIRGIN into the human race He created; born and given unto us, while being now returned to His eternal splendor yet one of us forever! He is called “the last Adam” in 1 Corinthians 15:45 in contrast to “The first man Adam” who by choice disobeyed and fell into sin bringing himself and all his offspring, the entire human race, into death with himself, but this new seed, “the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving Spirit—restoring the dead to life” Amplified Bible. Verse 22 of the same chapter says, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” This life is in Him, He said “I have come that they may have life…” John 10:10, not that everyone will have this life, but they “may have life”, the key is this, “Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life…” John 6:54. That is whoever partakes of Me and My life, My sacrifice, by faith. And this Son continues to be described in the rest of Isaiah 9:6-7, “And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace…” And we remember these words from an old Christmas carol, “His power and glory evermore proclaim”.

To Us a Child of Hope is Born

By John Morrison, Selected by Rose Hill

To us a child of hope is born,

To us a Son is given.

Him shall the tribes of earth obey,

Him all the hosts of heaven.

His name shall be the Prince of Peace,

Forevermore adored.

The Wonderful, the Counselor,

The great and mighty Lord.

His pow’r, increasing, still shall spread,

His reign no end shall know;

Justice shall guard His throne above

And peace abound below.
