The fruit of the Spirit (Part twenty

“But the fruit of the Spirit is…self-control” Galatians 5:22-23. This fruit has to do especially with sexual activity, but as we learn from other Scriptures like Colossians 3:5-10, it encompasses every area of our life! The Apostle writes in 1 Corinthians 9:27 “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest…I myself should become disqualified” meaning un-approved, rejected, or worthless! Galatians 5:25 says “if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” which is literally to “walk in line with” the Spirit; if you confess it, walk it! This fruit of the Spirit empowers but does not compel, it is up to us to utilize this power! Romans 13:14 instructs us to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” Having become “a new creation” in Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are no longer under the sway of Satan, although he tries to make us think we are by presenting us with the same old temptations, however by this fruit we are empowered to “abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” 1 Peter 2:11; the Bible says “sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace” Romans 6:14. God’s laws of righteousness have not changed, but when we accept Jesus the spirit that lives within us changes us, enabling us to live the ultimate Christian life which is to “glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” 1 Corinthians 6:20.

New walk new talk

By Rose Hill

We will put on a new walk,

And adopt a new talk.

When the Holy Spirit gives us a life made new,

This is what we will have the power to do.
