“Let us hold fast…”

Our next stop in Hebrews is at 4:14, “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest…Jesus the Son of God, Let us hold fast our confession.” Confession of Him, to Him, and of what His (God’s) word says about us, not our feelings nor our emotions, which can be very great, but can also be very devastating, or fleeting in times of testing, temptation, and pressure. The bed rock of our confession must remain “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved …” Romans 10:9-10. His word is sure; therefore we are encouraged to confess that we are what His word says we are, and that we receive what His word says we will receive! Hebrews 3:6 says “but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house (family) we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm (stable) to the end.” This seems to be a key to the final reward, remaining firm to the end! Jesus said “he who endures to the end will be saved” Matthew 10:22. We must not allow feelings, emotions, surroundings, or circumstances to sway us.  Even if everything around you looks hopeless join with Abraham “who against hope believed in hope” Romans 4:18 KJV. Hebrews 10:35 says “do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward”. And Hebrews 3:14 in the Amplified Bible (1965 edition) says, “For we have become fellows with Christ, the Messiah, and share in all He has for us, if only we hold our first newborn confidence and original assured expectation [in virtue of which we are believers] firm and unshaken to the end.”  This principle of our unshaken confession applies to all God’s provisions which will come to pass in due time if we continue to meet His conditions. Don’t allow yourself to fall among those “who believe for a while and in time of temptation (testing) fall away” Luke 8:13.

Stability

By Rose Hill

Our feelings and emotions will have no sway,

When we trust in our Savior both night and day.

As we remain in His word and with our hearts we believe,

We will be working the final reward to receive.
