A Testimony

This week we are featuring the testimony of a person that has become very close to us. This testimony brings out in real life the fact that we cooperate with God in bringing about what He does in our life. There are things we cannot conqueror and addictions we cannot break, but God does not just come down and take them from us while we sit idly by loving them! But if we cry out to Him in true repentance – sorrow over them and purpose not to continue in them – He will help and deliver; He says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:33). Also “… whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in mount Zion and in Jerusalem (which represent the place of His presence) there shall be deliverance …” (Joel 2:32).

Word Of My Testimony

-By Mike Carroll

Today I have a wonderful life. I have a wife that loves God, and I love her dearly; we own a small car repair business, and we have been blessed with the ability to help others. Many would say, “What kind of testimony is this?” Well, let’s back up five years or so. Five years ago I was sleeping on a fold out bed, in my dads garage, waking up hung over every morning. I would usually start drinking at lunch and drink until I passed out at night. The drinking was my way of trying to drown out the life I had lived up to that point. My wife and I were separated; I had lost a couple businesses due to drugs and alcohol; my kids were scattered, and my grand-kids were watching me become a drunken fool. Most days I wanted to drink myself to death, because I felt I deserved it. I begged God to help me, because even though I was on the wrong path I was raised in church. I kept wondering why God wouldn’t help me, and I had decided I wasn’t worth helping because of my past. One day on the radio, as my brother and I were driving (I was in charge of radio stations), I stopped on this guy speaking. We were headed to the liquor store and I kept listening to this man speak; all of a sudden he said,  “If you are tired of drinking, don’t drink.” Laughing, I said, “Yea, if only it was that easy.” That saying stuck with me, and a few Friday nights later, I was half drunk, lying there on my fold out bed, looking at all the empty bottles, thinking, “Is this what my life has become?” That night I told God I was finished drinking, I repented of alcohol, and I went to bed drunk… but I woke up sober! That was over five years ago, and I have had no desire to ever drink again! My life is great, and God has restored my marriage; He has given us a new work to do. Everything changed when I truly repented form my heart. It was then that God stepped in and gave me the strength to overcome. The man on the radio was close to right. If you want to change, then change, and repent; tell God you are going to change, and then you will receive the power to do it. Thank You, heavenly Father. These are the words of my testimony.

A New Life – 2 Corinthians 5:17

-By Rose Hill

When you give your life to Christ’s control,

He makes you, new within your soul.

Old things you did will pass away,

And there will be a brand new day.
