We Are Family

Family

While the word family only occurs one time in the King James New Testament (Ephesians 3:15), there are many references alluding to the fact that God views us (born-again Christians) as family, assuming the role of our Father, making us His children, and bonding us together as brothers and sisters. One of His greatest concerns for us is that we function as a family in harmony, unity, and love. 1 Corinthians 12:27 and Ephesians 4:12 both present us as “the body of Christ”, that is collectively we are His body, so that each of us are joined to one another as a family and function as parts of a body. Sure we are each distinct and have a different role to play; sure we each have our own unique methods of accomplishing our tasks; yes we each have our own individual vantage points; but if we are a healthy body, a properly functioning family, we will walk in love, John 13:35; we will live in harmony and unity, John 17:11, 22; we will avoid divisions, 1 Corinthians 1:10; we will delight to be with one another, Hebrews 10:25; and we will consider the others ahead of ourselves, Philippians 2:3.

We Are God’s Family

-By Rose Hill

(Inspired from 1 Corinthians 1:10 in the Amplified Bible)

We are asked to be in harmony,

So with one another we will agree.

Divisions are not a part of our life,

We are in agreement and free from strife.

Each others feelings we do consider,

For the way we’re treated we don’t become bitter.

We understand we can’t all be the same,

We love anyway and each other we don’t blame.

Since God has put His love in our heart,

We are bound together, and won’t come apart.
