Getting to know God (Part ten)

The book of the Prophet Ezekiel concludes with a vision of a new Temple and the layout of God’s chosen land, 48:35. While all the earth is His by reason of creation as Psalm 24:1 confirms “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein…” He has chosen the land of Israel as His special land. Ezekiel’s vision here is viewed by different people in different ways; some see it as a rebuilding following the return from Babylonian captivity, some relate it to the Christian church, others see here the millennial age, or the final form of God’s kingdom (remember here that often scripture has various applications and meanings). Regardless of the view you adhere to, Ezekiel’s final conclusion is that the city will be given the name of Jehovah Shammah meaning the Lord is there or present, so we meet Him as our abiding presence. The blood bought, redeemed church today is referred to as Mount Zion or the city of God to which all believers have come, Hebrews 11:22-24. As believers we know that He is present with us as He said in Matthew 28:20, “…I am with you always…” As individuals we are told that “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him…” Psalm 34:7. Remember the phrase “The angel of the Lord” in the Old Testament is believed to often, if not always, be a reference to Jesus Himself! Then to the church collectively He says, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” Matthew 18:20. As we gather together in unity with other believers our effectiveness for His kingdom seems to astronomically increase; do God’s math for yourself from Leviticus 26:8 and Deuteronomy 32:30. Yes He is Jehovah Shammah, “The Lord is present”, our abiding presence ever with us, the one who makes us “…more than conquerors…” Romans 8:37. Again, He is our Jehovah Shammah, “The Lord is present”.

Our Jehovah God

Part ten by Rose Hill

My child you never should be sad,

For great joy in Me can be had.

When you dwell in Me great blessings you’ll sense,

I am Jehovah Shammah your abiding presence.

I am that! That’s who I am!
