Christ’s advent

It is almost beyond our human comprehension that the Co-Creator of the entire universe would become an implanted seed, leaving the riches of heaven and be born of a woman into the poverty of fallen humanity; but “though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor…” 2 Corinthians 8:9. He was born in a cattle’s feeding place, not a palace, Luke 2:7; He was obviously raised in a poor family as is evidenced by the offering they brought at His presentation to the Lord, which was the offering of the poor according to the Law, Leviticus 12:2, 8 & Luke 2:22-24; He had no house to call His own while on earth, Luke 9:58; He often spent the night on the Mount of Olives, not in a guarded palace, Luke 21:37 & 22:39 (likely spending much of that time in prayer); He sent Peter fishing to raise money for His taxes, Matthew 17:27; He used a borrowed donkey colt upon which to ride, Matthew 21:2-7; He was not served by servants but rather came to serve, Matthew 20:28; He did not exclusively or generally choose the elite of society to be His closest associates, but was a friend to and of the common people, the despised, the needy, Luke 7:34, 15:2 &19:7. He did all this to bring the gift of God to us, and “as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God…” John 1:12, so that we “…through His poverty we might become rich” 2 Corinthians 8:9, with the eternal riches of heaven! And He calls to all, “Come to me…” Matthew 11:28, “And it shall come to pass that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” Acts 2:21. And forevermore “His name will be called wonderful…” Isaiah 9:6.

He did it for us

By Rose Hill

From heaven’s glory He came down,

In a palace rich He was not found.

He had no house to call His own,

The one who in heaven had a throne.

He came down God’s gift to give,

So that through His death we can live.

Then our response to Him should be,

To call for His gift so rich and free.
