Getting to know God (Part fourteen)

Today we come to another attribute of our great “I Am” God, EL Hanneman, in Deuteronomy 7:9, “He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” And that really tells the story, He is the faithful God, the one that promises “I will never leave you nor forsake you” Hebrews 13:5. He is ever present to build us up, support us, and foster us. He is reliable, trustworthy, and faithful.  He is a covenant making, covenant keeping God “who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments”. How long is that? A generation is viewed as different lengths of time from 40 to perhaps 120 years. I see a thousand generations implying infinity, reaching to that day when time on earth as we know it will be no more and we will be in eternity! Over and over again the Scriptures attest to the faithfulness of God; Nehemiah 1:5 “O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You…” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 “…the Lord is faithful…” 1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful…” Sarah was given a son “because she judged Him faithful who had promised” Hebrews 11:11, and in 2 Timothy 2:13 “He remains faithful…” Being the faithful God that He is He lays out the standard for His children to be faithful likewise; He expects us to be true to our word, to our marriage covenant, in business, in personal life, in everything; indeed He places covenant breakers (KJV) untrustworthy (NKJV) in a long list of evil, anti God acts in Romans 1:28-32! If you have stumbled and failed there is good news He is a God of mercy and has made room for repentance and restoration; 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

That friend you thought you could trust always,

Now has been gone for many days.

But I’m the one you can count on,

I’m El Hanneman the faithful one.

I am that! That’s who I am!
