Jesus Himself speaking in John 10:1, using a metaphor from the agriculture of His day, said, “Most assuredly I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold (the kingdom of God) by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” A sheepfold was an enclosure where several flocks of sheep were brought, especially at night, for protection and safety against predators, thieves, and robbers. Although several flocks could be here at one time there was only one door; each flock would follow their shepherd when he called them because they knew him and recognized his voice. Spiritually we are the sheep, the sheepfold is the kingdom of God, and Jesus is the shepherd; dropping down to verse 7 He says plainly “…I am the door of the sheep” and then in verse 9 He continues, “…if anyone enters by Me he will be saved…” There is only one door, through which we must pass to enter the kingdom of God, and that door Is Jesus who alone has paid redemptions price; the song of the redeemed is, You “…have redeemed us to God by Your blood…” Revelation 5:9; then Acts 4:12 says “there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved”. Religion will tell you there are other entrances such as self reform, go to church, live a good moral life, treat your neighbor right, give to charities, give your undivided love and support to your spouse and children, be honest, Etc. Apart from Jesus These are all thieves and robbers that are out to steal, kill, and destroy you John 10:10, (through deception). While all of these should be a part of kingdom life none of them provide a door of entrance into it! Jesus Himself is the only door; beside Him there is no other, He alone came so we “may have life…and have it more abundantly”!
Jesus the door
By Rose Hill
Jesus is the only door,
For other ways search no more.
When you’re walking alone in the night,
Searching and searching for what is right.
Enter by way of the door.
And you need not search anymore
