Psalm 23 (Part seven, purpose)

Why does God choose to have this intimate relationship with us, providing for our needs, giving us rest, refreshing, healing, and guiding us in righteous paths? It most certainly is not because we merit or deserve it, for every one of us like David in Psalm 51:5 “was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin…conceived”. Having been created in God’s likeness, (Genesis 1:27), we were plunged into the darkness of sin, and thus became enemies of God, (Romans 8:7)! But even while we were at enmity with God He loved us so much that He came to redeem us (see Romans 5:10). So in love He has redeemed us, and Psalms 23:3 goes on to tell us it is “For His name’s sake.” Everything, mankind, including places of authority, and nature has been “created through Him and for Him” Colossians 1:16. Satan’s clever scheme to divert and destroy God’s plan and purpose has been defeated “through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” Romans 3:24. His work of restoration has begun in us “to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the beloved…to the praise of His glory” Ephesians 1:6, 12, 14. God says in Isaiah 42:8, “I am the Lord, that is My name, And My glory I will not give to another.” Cf. 48:11. Since we have been created by Him, and now redeemed and are being restored through His blood, He has every right to expect us to perform for His glory! See 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Furthermore, and get this, He has ordained that what glorifies Him also benefits us! His word, His teaching, His correction, and the Holy Spirit’s guidance, are aimed at bringing us to the end He has in view for us, to give us “a future and a hope” or as KJV “an expected end” Jeremiah 29:11; all “For His name’s sake” 3 John 1:7, so we are purposed “To the praise of His glory” Ephesians 1:12.

We sing His praise

By Rose Hill

For us many things the Lord has done,

So from our mouth praise will come.

We do bring Him honor and glory,

It is a wonderful love story.
