Psalm 23:6 continues “And I will dwell in the house of the Lord” The word for dwell properly means to sit down, and implies to dwell, remain, settle, and even to marry, which gives us a right to dwell there as a member of the family! Again, where did he say he would dwell? “…in the house of the Lord”. The Hebrew word for house applies to a household , a family, or a clan, as in Genesis 7:1; it is also a dwelling place such as a house as we see it in Ruth 2:7; furthermore it is a temple or building, and it is used referring to Solomon’s temple in 2 Chronicles 7:16. The temple is characterized by God’s presence; it is the place God chose to dwell in the midst of His people. I am a part of God’s covenant family. And remember that marriage is a covenant; covenants in the Old Testament were often sealed with blood, and our covenant relationship with God is sealed in the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, see 1 Peter 1:18-19 where we have been “redeemed…with the precious blood of Christ;” Hebrews 12:24 where Jesus is portrayed as “the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling…” and 13:20 where He is shown as “that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant”. So, now as a member of the household I will remain and dwell there in the presence of Jehovah. I will delight myself in His presence with other members of His family, as Psalm 122:1 puts it, “I was glad when they said to me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
Family blessing
By Rose Hill
What a blessing it is to be,
A part of God’s family!
And in His delightful presence to dwell,
Being assured that He makes all things well.
