“Getting to know God” (Part Three)

In Genesis 22:14 we meet “I AM” as Jehovah Jireh, meaning The Lord provides, or my provider. In this incident Abraham, known as “the friend of God”, James 2:23, is offering his son Isaac in sacrifice which was a test of his faith and obedience; when he had proved these to God by his obedience, the voice of “the Angel of the Lord” stopped him, and a ram (the appropriate Old Testament sacrifice) appeared ensnared in a thicket, which was the substitute for Isaac; it was then that Abraham spoke calling the name of the place Jehovah Jireh and revealing God to us as the one who will provide, or my provider! This is one of the Old Testament prophetic foreshadowing’s of God providing a substitute for us in the Lord Jesus. Isaac was at the point of death, as good as dead, when God provided the substitute so he could live; the Bible says we “were dead in trespasses and sins”, Ephesians 2:1, when the provision of life was made available through the love of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ. But we must lay hold of and appropriate that sacrifice personally to receive the benefits of it, for they are only given to “as many as received Him”, John 1:12. Just as surely as He provided for our redemption from sins judgment which is death, He has provided in that same sacrifice for every other need brought on because of man’s fall into sin, for those who meet His conditions! In Matthew 6:26 Jesus shows how God takes care of the birds, and that we are of more value than they. We urge you to receive His provision today.
Our Jehovah God
Part three by Rose Hill
When you don’t seem to have enough,
And the going gets mighty rough.
I Am the one who is your supplier,
I Am Jehovah Jireh your provider.
I Am that! That’s who I Am!
