The Scripture says God has “made us alive together with Christ…and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 2:5-6. Far too often we Christians fail to recognize the depth and fullness of our calling and position in Christ Jesus. This may be one reason the Apostles prayer in Ephesians 1:15-23 is for the eyes of our understanding to be enlightened. First we need to recognize that our identity with Christ is in His resurrection; 2:1 says we “were dead in trespasses and sins”, but Christ stepped into our death, conquered it arising in new life. He identified with our death so we can now identify with His resurrection, in which we are “made alive”, cf. Romans 6:5. We are now seated with Him in Life! Being seated speaks of resting in a finished work, but it also speaks of being placed in a position as in a governing body, as a seat on the counsel. Being seated not only hints at our eternal future, but establishes us in His present rule as He sits “at the right hand of God” Colossians 3:1, interceding for us according to Romans 8:27, and we now are privileged to share in the present works of His kingdom here on earth, first as recipients, see Colossians 1:13, and then as partners in sharing His message and work, see 2 Corinthians 6:1, and 1 Corinthians 3:9. And being seated with Him identifies us with Him eternally, “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus”, verse 7. Surely we are seated with Him now, as we await that future kingdom when He will come again and receive us unto Himself that where He is there we “may be also”, John14:3.
Sitting with Jesus
By Rose Hill
This I believe and will say,
I am sitting with Jesus here today.
He is making me alive in heavenly places,
Giving me eternally many graces.
Just think what a wonderful blessing it is,
To be such a blessed child of His!
