In Isaiah 55:1-3 God gives a special invitation: Water in the Bible speaks of life, wine represents gladness and joy, milk symbolizes nourishment, and bread that which strengthens, (cf. Psalm 104:15; 1 Peter 2:2; Revelation 21:6.) These verses in Isaiah give a clear invitation to separate from the past; to Israel at that time from Babylonian influences, to us from the influences of the world around us, and those things we have pursued but that have left us empty and without lasting satisfaction every time. God asks why you spend your hard earned wages on the pursuit of things that only bring a momentary thrill and have no lasting satisfaction. Why keep going back to the same old broken cisterns that can hold no water? (cf. Jeremiah 2:13.) God’s invitation is listen to Me, partake of My provision, and I will fill you with satisfaction and delight in abundance according to My everlasting covenant through Jesus the descendant of David, who was “a man after My own heart” Acts 13:22. Remember Jesus parable of the Prodigal in Luke 15:11-32 who squandered all he had on the wasteful lifestyles of the world that left him empty and without satisfaction? It was not until “he finally came to his senses” (verse 17 NLT) and came to his father’s house that he received the abundance that his soul longed for, with acceptance and great celebration. God’s invitation is issued to you today, Revelation 22:17, perhaps echoing from Isaiah 55:1, says, “Whosoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.” Jesus Himself says “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled”, Matthew 5:6.
Something more
By Rose Hill
Are you thirsty for something more,
Than you ever had before?
Jesus said ask of Me,
And living water I’ll give to thee.
The water I give will satisfy,
And you will never have to die.
For I give to you life eternal,
To live with Me in a land supernal.
